St Matthew's Carver Street

Rooted in the Anglo-Catholic tradition of the Church of England, St Matthew’s is a growing, welcoming, and evangelising church in Sheffield City Centre. St Matthew’s is a parish of The Society under the episcopal care of the Bishop of Beverley. We are situated in the eclectic and vibrant Devonshire Quarter and strive to be a sanctuary at the heart of the City. Our beautiful place of worship is open for you and all in Sheffield. Here you will encounter a community of Christian believers centred on Jesus Christ through the Holy Mass who are trying, by God’s help, to live out their best lives. St Matthew’s Church is a safe place to grow, ask questions, meet new people and belong.

We are a diverse congregation from all around the world. We find that people make their spiritual home with us even when they are only with us for a short time. Our congregation includes students, families, senior citizens, young adults, couples and singles. We are also a great place for people to explore Christianity for the first time. Many people over the generations have come to faith alongside this community.

We believe in the power of Jesus to transform people’s lives and we believe that Jesus calls us together as the Church in order to support, love and encourage one another.

We feel challenged to become more Christ-like as a congregation and seek to be a community that grows in grace. We know that the best way to grow in grace is through leading a sacramental life, as this brings individuals closer to God through the Church He founded.

We are old and young, local and international, new in ardour and ancient in faith. We seek to be a sanctuary in the City of Sheffield and we are here for you!
